Stoughton girls earn another shot at Milton; Delavan-Darien advances

Stoughton free throws spelled the end of the line for Fort Atkinson High School’s girls basketball team.


The Vikings made 20 of 29 attempts from the line in the second half Friday night and knocked off the Blackhawks, 49-44, in a WIAA Division 2 regional semifinal game at Fort Atkinson.


That gave Stoughton (10-13) an opportunity to avenge two regular-season losses against Badger South champion Milton (19-13). The Vikings face the Red Hawks in a regional title game at 7 tonight at Kettle Moraine, with a berth in the Sun Prairie Sectional on the line.


Stoughton trailed 20-17 at the half, but turned the tables with a 15-8 third-quarter advantage for a 32-28 lead.


Kayla Rowley scored 14 points to lead Stoughton. Lexie Weigand and Kaitlyn Hollman scored 11 points apiece for Fort, which finished with a 15-8 record.

-- Delavan-Darien 52, Wilmot 47—Alana Cesarz led three double-figure scorers, and Delavan-Darien got past visiting Wilmot to reach tonight’s Division 2 regional finals.


The Comets (12-10) play second-ranked Southern Lakes champion Union Grove (22-1) at 7 at Whitewater for the regional title. The winner faces Milton (19-3) or Stoughton (10-13) next Thursday at Janesville Craig in the semifinals of the Sun Prairie Sectional.


Sarah Miller added 14 points, and Emily Norris had 11 for the Comets, who defeated their former coach, Keiya Square, for the second time this season.


Sarah Vozel led the Panthers (13-11) with 16 points.

Alyssa Thomas had 15 points, five rebounds, four steals and three assists for the Broncos.

Monona Grove finished 10-14.
