Evansville Jays win 4th straight, Albion wins
Evansville did it again Sunday in Home Talent League baseball.
The Jays made the most of four-hit pitching and slipped past visiting Jefferson, 3-1, for their fourth straight victory in the Southeast Section.
Matt Drefahl pitched the first eight innings in getting the victory, which lifted Evansville to 5-5 in the West Division.
Evansville took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on singles by Craig Paton and Mike Maves. The Jays then broke a 1-1 tie in the fourth when Eric Seeman got a leadoff double and scored from third base on a stretch steal.
Danny Crans’ leadoff single, two hit batsmen and a passed ball with the bases loaded gave Evansville an insurance run in the seventh.
Jefferson slipped into second place at 6-4 in the East Division with Sunday’s loss after tying for first with a 5-2 victory over Fort Atkinson on Saturday.
-- Albion 14, Lake Mills 0—The Tigers pounded out 15 hits and got five-hit pitching and nine strikeouts from Matt Buhrow to bury visiting Lake Mills in seven innings.
Ben Everson’s two-run single highlighted a six-run sixth inning that gave Albion its 14-run run spread. Lake Mills then got its last at-bat to complete the league’s mandatory seven innings to enforce the 10-run rule.
Adam Gregory went 3-for-4 and drove in two runs to lead Albion’s offense. Aaron Laskowski, Trevor Kinnett, Marty Johnson and Josh Eastman each added two hits apiece as the Tigers improved to 6-3 in the West Division.
