The Rock County Gladiators open their home schedule of the Great Midwest Football League on Saturday.
The Janesville Night-hawks will attempt to score points in their second home game of the GMFL season Saturday.
The Gladiators will be at home at Clinton High School when they play the Chicago Cardinals in a 6 p.m. game. The Clinton High School field is at 112 Milwaukee Road.
Rock County lost its opener to the Beloit Titans, 30-27, on a last-second field goal last Saturday. A first attempt went wide, but the Gladiators were called for being offside, which gave the Titans a second chance at the field goal.
The Nighthawks could not get their offense moving in their 20-0 loss to the Twin City Dawgs last Saturday.
A fumble on the Nighthawk 4 set up the Dawgs’ first score, and on the Nighthawks’ best offensive drive, an interception and return put Twin City on the Janesville 28, which set up another score.
“We spent three hours working on correcting mistakes (Tuesday),” said Nighthawk coach Topher Diehl.
The Rams’ opening game against the Rockford Raiders last Saturday resulted in a forfeit when the Rams’ uniforms did not arrive in time. Diehl said the Rams’ owner has assured him that there will be a game Saturday.
Nighthawk fans are encouraged to bring lawn chairs to Monterey Park for Saturday’s game. Diehl said more than 200 fans attended the opener. Admission is free, and the concession stand will be catered by the Pit Stop BBQ.
