— The Watertown Cardinals took an early lead and went on to shut out the Milton Junction Pub Raptors, 4-0, in Rock River League South Division baseball Sunday.

“Both teams were 4-1 coming in, and it’s a game we thought we had to have,” said Milton manager Doug Welch. “We had eight hits and three doubles. We just didn’t have any timely hits.”

Watertown scored twice in the first inning and added two runs in the seventh. Both teams finished with eight hits.

Joe Shere and Eric Steinke each went 2-for-4 with a double to lead the Raptors’ offense.

Andy Schwantes pitched a complete game to earn the victory for Watertown.

Milton plays twice next weekend. The Raptors host Johnson Creek at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, then travel to Madison Laurel Tavern for a 1:30 p.m. game Sunday.
