— The cause and origin of a fire that scorched three vacation homes near Delavan Lake remained under investigation Sunday.

Town of Delavan Fire Chief Gerald Edwards said the fire broke out at 9 p.m. Saturday at 4405 Silverwood Drive, Delavan Township. He said the blaze spread to two neighboring homes.

"When I arrived, it was just a ball of fire," Edwards said. "It had become huge. The heat transfer, which set the other houses on fire, added to the problem."

No one was seriously injured in the fires, although one firefighter was treated and released from a local hospital for heat exhaustion, Edwards said.

No one was in the homes at the time.

The houses at 4405 and 4401 Silverwood Drive were a total loss, he said. A third home at 4409 Silverwood Drive had damage to a garage and pontoon boat.

"They were just so close that the heat radiated off of them and ignited those as well," Edwards said.
