Elkhorn knocks off Badger, other soccer scores

Elkhorn High pulled off an upset Thursday night in the opening round of WIAA girls soccer tournament play.

Erica Mora’s goal off an assist from Emma Scaro at the 87-minute mark gave the Elks a 2-1 victory over Badger in a Division 1 regional semifinal game at Lake Geneva.

That set up Elkhorn (7-10-3) for a title game Saturday at Milton. Badger’s season ended at 13-7-2.

Along with her game-winning assist, Scaro gave Elkhorn a 1-0 lead over Badger on an unassisted goal at the 39-minute mark. Emma Kopp’s goal on an assist from Sam Reynolds tied the match at the 50-minute mark.

Megan Zainer, Melissa Kraus and Katie Soddy also scored as the Red Hawks improved to 13-6-1 with the help of three goals over a three-minute stretch in the first half.

Milton hosts Elkhorn at 1 p.m. Saturday in a regional title game that leads to the Kenosha Tremper Sectional.

-- Delavan-Darien 1, East Troy 0—Amanda McLernon’s goal at the 93-mark carried Delavan-Darien to a double-overtime victory over the Trojans (3-11-2) in a Division 2 regional semifinal game.

Victoria Huebner’s assist set up McLernon for the game’s only score, enabling the Comets to improve to 13-2-1 for the season.

Delavan-Darien plays Pewaukee at Waukesha South in Saturday’s title game, which leads to the Pewaukee Sectional.

-- Aquinas 10, Lakeside 2—The Warriors had an early 2-0 lead, but second-seeded La Crosse Aquinas’ eight-goal second half spelled the different in Division 3 regional semifinal game.

Olivia Scheiber and Janesville resident Cassie Carlson got the Lakeside goals. Sloan Kessler, Molly Malone and Meggie Gaspers each had two goals in Sparking the Blugolds’ domination the rest of the way.

Aquinas plays Wisconsin Heights in Saturday’s regional finals at Columbus. Lakeside’s season ended at 16-8.
