Janesville Craig golfers advance in Division 1

— Lake Geneva High School’s boys golf team felt right at home here Tuesday.

Led by Chad Henry’s 2-over-par 74, the Badgers won the Badger High Sectional title at Hawk’s View Golf Club with a 321. Janesville Craig finished second with 327 and will join Badger in the WIAA Division 1 state meet Monday and Tuesday at University Ridge in Madison.

Janesville Parker tied Sun Prairie and Beaver Dam for third with a 337. Parker’s Dustin Richards had the city’s lowest score with a 76.

Madison La Follette’s Jacob Feuerstein was medalist with a 1-under par 71, while Fort Atkinson’s Tyler Glass earned a trip to state with a 1-over 73.

Henry led Badger, and Ashenfelter Invitational medalist Ryan Gorske was one shot back with a 75. Brendan Gruenwald-Schmitz added an 83 for the Badgers, and Chris Georgalas rounded out the team’s top four scores with an 89.

Sophomore Jordan Gagg paced the Craig boys with a 79. Gagg had a 42 on the front nine and shot a 1-over 37 on the back nine. Junior Tanner Woodman shot an 81 for Craig, senior Jim Leute an 83 ,and senior Ryne Clatworthy rounded out the scoring with an 84.

“I thought coming in that any score under 330 would give us a chance as a team,” Craig second-year coach

Dominic Wiegel said. “As it turns out, that was right.

“I’m really proud of the way everybody played. We had a good, consistent round. Nobody blew up or had any big holes. Their reward is getting to play at state.”

Richards, a junior, posted nines of 39 and 37 en route to a 76. Junior Taylor Braun had an 81 for Parker, and junior Peyton Graham chipped in with an 85.
