Janesville 14s win Babe Ruth Ohio Valley Regional opener
Janesville started off in the right fashion Saturday defeating West Virginia, 9-1, at the 14-year-old Ohio Valley Regional Babe Ruth baseball tournament.
Janesville led 7-0 after two innings. Nick Blomgren laced a two-run homer in the first inning and Janeville scored five runs on four hits in the second, including Logan Coulter’s two-run home run.
Janesville pitchers Blomgren and Alex Faust combined to hold West Virginia to three hits. Blomberg allowed one run on two hits and notched eight strikeouts through the first five innings.
“Blomgren pitched phenominal,” Janesville coach Ron Kobs said. “He had command of everything. They didn’t have much of a chance against Nick.’’
Janesville pounded out nine hits. Alex Marro went 3-for-4, including a triple and Blomgren was 2-for-4.
Janesville enjoys a bye today and plays the winner of the Effingham, Ill. vs. Henderson, Ky. winner at 2:30 p.m. Monday.
