WCLO's / WJVL's Steve Benton reports on a new tool for the Rock County level "B" hazardous materials team.

RSS

— The Rock County level "B" hazmat team has a new tool to help identify potentially dangerous substances at the scene of a spill or incident. Without the kit, it can take several days to get test results back from the state lab.

Janesville firefighter / paramedic and hazmat team leader, Ron Sagen, says the kit allows them to test liquids and powders. Items used in testing can then be ordered to restock the kit. The cost of the kit, about $1,600, is covered by a federal grant administered by the state.

Sagen says team members will be shown how to use the kit at a training session July, 26th.
