— The Beloit Snappers appeared to be on their way to an easy victory Thursday as they led Great Lakes, 5-0, after seven innings in Midwest League baseball.

The Loons had other ideas, scoring three runs in each of the final two innings to edge the Snappers, 6-5.

Nick Akins' three-run home run with one out in the bottom of the ninth won it. The homer was off Snappers reliever Bart Carter, who had just replaced Jose Gonzalez. The Snappers' third pitcher, Gonzalez allowed two runs—both earned—in just two-thirds of an inning.

Derek McCallum hit a two-run home run in the fourth inning to give Beloit a 3-0 lead. The Snappers extended the margin to 5-0 in the sixth on Jairo Perez's two-run homer.

Beloit starter Ryan O'Rourke pitched 5 1/3 scoreless innings. He allowed five hits and two walks while striking out four.

Michael Tonkin replaced O'Rourke and yielded three runs, all earned, while giving up two runs and striking out four in two-thirds of an inning.

The Snappers and Loons wrap up their three-game series at 6:05 tonight.
