Edgerton’s Morrison in State Am hunt

— Andrew Morrison of Edgerton was three shots off the lead Tuesday after the second round of the Wisconsin State Amateur Championship at Maple Bluff Country Club.

Morrison, 16, a junior-to-be at Edgerton High, posted a 2-over-par 73 to go with a first-round even par 71 for a 36-hole total of 144.


First-round leaders Mike Sorenson and Anthony Aicher faltered and Ricky Hearden, a 20-year-old from Green Bay, stepped into the lead.


Sorenson and Aicher shot 4-under-par 67s in Monday’s opening round. Sorenson rocketed to a 4-over 75 for a 142 total and Aicher stumbled to a 7-over 78 for a 145.


Hearden shot even par 71 to go with his first-round 70 for a 141. He leads four players, including Sorenson, by a stroke.


Meanwhile, 18-year-old Ryan Garza of Lake Geneva trails the leader by five strokes, carding a 1-over 72 to go with a first-round 74 for a 146. Evan Wartgow of Fort Atkinson shot a 77 to go with his first round 71 to stand at 148.


Matt Behm of Janesville and Dan Ozga of Edgerton are eight shots off the pace at 149. Behm carded a 5-over 76 to go with his first-round 73. Ozga fired a 3-over 74 after his first-round 75.


Curt Langille of Lake Geneva carded a 2-under par 69 to rebound from a first-round 80 for a 148 total. Langille shared low round honors with Maxwell Hosking of Madison and Jimmy Hutchings of Hudson.


Mike Hesselman, formerly of Edgerton, is at 151 after carding a 76. Stefan Johnson of Williams Bay fired a 3-over 74 to go with his first-round 77 for a 151, and Austin Gaugert of Lake Geneva carded a 77 to go with his 75 to just make the 152 cut.


Failing to make the cut were Janesville’s Jordan Brovick and Sean Halverson. Lake Geneva’s Richard Pfeil and Alex Gaugert and Beloit’s Erik Botts also missed the cut.
