— A woman injured in a vehicle crash while she was trying to stop her car from rolling into the street has died, the Milton Police Department reported in a press release.

Cherry M. McCutchan, 58, of Milton died Saturday at Mercy Hospital and Trauma Center, Janesville, according to police.

McCutchan was at the hospital and was listed in critical condition for several days after she was injured in a vehicle crash July 9.

According to initial reports released by the Milton Police Department, McCutchan’s car was unoccupied and was parked in the driveway of her home on West Madison Avenue when it went out of gear and started to roll toward the street.

McCutchan reportedly chased after the car and was trying to get inside of it when it was struck by an SUV driven eastbound on West Madison Avenue by Steve Penton, 58, of 134 Oakwood Ave., Edgerton. McCutchan was then hit by her own vehicle.

As of Monday, police had not released a full report on the accident.

Police said that speed, inattentiveness and alcohol did not play a role in the crash, and no citations were issued.

McCutchan was a former board member for the Rock County Humane Society, according to a Gazette obituary.
