— The city of Janesville is taking extra precautions to keep work crews safe during the current heat wave.

Assistant Operations Director for the Public Works Department, Peter Riggs, says some of the crews are given the option of taking their breaks in air-conditioned buildings. Crews required to remain at a job site are checked on a regular basis to make sure they stay hydrated. Riggs also says many of the crews are allowed to wear shorts and short sleeved shirts on the job unless a safety issue is involved.

Employees are also urged to wear sunscreen, carry extra water bottles, and report any health issues that may be affected by the heat.
