Edgerton’s Morrison, Fort’s Wartgow open with 71s

— Andrew Morrison, a junior-to-be at Edgerton High School, fired an opening-round even par 71 along with Evan Wartgow of Fort Atkinson to lead local and area golfers Monday at the State Amateur Championship at Maple Bluff Country Club.

Morrison and Wartgow are in a seven-way tie for sixth place and four strokes behind first-round co-leaders Mike Sorenson of Hartland and Anthony Aicher of Wausau, who both carded 4-under 67s.


Morrison shot 36-35 and Wartgow went 37-34. Sorenson went 35-32 and Aicher went 32-35.


Janesville’s Matt Behm posted a 2-over 73 (37-36), Jordan Brovick shot 75 (40-35) and Sean Halverson carded a 77 (37-40).


Dan Ozga of Edgerton, who just completed his freshman season at UW-Green Bay, carded a 75 (39-36) and former Edgerton standout Mike Hesselman from West Bend also fired a 75 (37-38).


Lake Geneva’s Austin Gaugert and Ryan Garske shot 74 apiece. Alex Gaugert posted an 84, Tyler Cuculi posted an 80, Curt Langille 81, and Richard Pfeil carded an 83. Stefan Johnson of Williams Bay carded a 77.
