Janesville youth baseball teams advance in tourney play
Janesville’s 15-year-old Babe Ruth baseball team advanced to the state tournament with a 15-6 victory over Verona in the district tournament Friday at Cross Plains.
Janesville dropped its second game of the day, 13-5 to Middleton, to finish third in the district with a 3-2 record.
Collin Powers pitched a complete game and struck out three in Janesville’s victory over Verona, and Bobby Getka made both of his hits count by driving in the tying and winning runs.
Janesville advances to at Sauk City, where it will play its opener at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday. The opponent is to be determined.

Nick Blomgren hit a three-run homer, and Alex Faust threw a complete-game one-hitter to lead Janesville’s 14-year-old Babe Ruth team to a 6-0 district win over Middleton on Friday at Reedsburg.
Janesville, which already has qualified for next week’s state tournament at Green Bay, plays in today’s district championship game at noon against Waunakee or Middleton.
Blomgren finished 3-for-4, including a home run in the bottom of the sixth that pushed Janesville’s lead to 6-0.
Faust struck out six and allowed no walks.

Chase Nyborg went the distance Friday to lead Janesville’s 13-year-old team to an 8-3 district win over Windsor at Sauk City.
Janesville advanced to today’s 1 p.m. championship game against the winner of Friday night’s Windsor/Middleton game. Janesville, which has already advanced to next week’s state tournament at Eau Claire, is the only undefeated team in the district tournament.
Landen Graham drove in four runs for Janesville, while Nyborg had an RBI triple.

Janesville’s 10-year-old team continues to pound the ball at the Cal Ripken state tournament in Darlington.
Janesville won twice Friday to advance to today’s semifinal game at noon against Stevens Point. The winner advances to the state title game at 3 p.m.
Janesville beat Darlington, 15-0, and Cross Plains, 12-2, on Friday. Janesville previously defeated Stevens Point, 14-2, in pool play.
Casey Stone started and picked up wins in both games Friday, while Jordan Bailey had a bases-loaded triple against Darlington.
