— A Janesville teacher of at-risk students is likely to become the newest assistant principal at Craig High School.

Superintendent Karen Schulte is recommending the Janesville School Board approve her choice of Shawn Kane for the job.

Kane has taught at Janesville’s Marshall Middle School since 2004. He also was an “internal coach” as Marshall put in place a new discipline program called Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports, and he has filled in as a substitute administrator.

Kane holds a master’s degree in education from National-Louis University.

Kane is focused on academic growth and has exemplary communication skills, according to a district news release.

Kane was chosen from a pool of 43 applicants. Four applicants were interviewed by a team of administrators, who recommended two for interviews by a Craig “peer interview team.”

The other finalist was Matt Peerenboom, who teaches at Franklin Middle School in Janesville.

Schulte recommends Kane receive an annual salary of $89,424. If approved, he would begin work Aug. 12.
