— Six people were injured in a two-car crash that closed Highway 14 for more than four hours Friday evening.

The crash occurred around 5:10 p.m. Friday in front of 8544 E. Highway 14 in Bradford Township.

The drivers, Walter N. Chapman, 69, Janesville, and Kyndle R. Bennett, 17, of the Darien area, were both pinned in their vehicles, according to the Rock County Sheriff’s Office.

Both drivers were airlifted to University Hospital, according to a news release.

The news release said both drivers were in serious condition Friday night. Chapman was listed in fair condition Saturday at University Hospital in Madison.

No information was available about Bennett’s condition.

Also injured were passengers Mary A. Chapman, 66; Alexandra K. Kort, 16; Kathleen M. Cahill, 17, and Reed A. Wuttke, 17. Condition reports and addresses could not be obtained Saturday.

Ambulances from Clinton, Darien and Janesville transported patients to Mercy Hospital and Trauma Center in Janesville and Lakeland Hospital in Elkhorn.

Initial investigation indicated that Chapman’s westbound vehicle crossed into the eastbound lane of Highway 14 on a curve and struck the vehicle that Bennett was driving.

Alcohol was not believed to be a contributing factor.

Chapman was issued citations, but no criminal investigation is expected, the news release said.
