— No one was injured when a motorboat burned to the waterline on Geneva Lake on Saturday afternoon, the Geneva Lake Law Enforcement Agency reported

Two adults and six children were aboard when the engine caught fire, said agency Cmdr. Tom Hausner.

The eight people jumped into the water and were picked up by the agency and the Water Safety Patrol. The town of Linn Fire Department and the Fontana fireboat also responded. The fire was extinguished and the boat was removed from the lake.

Hausner said the boat was a 2003 Cobalt inboard/outboard. It caught fire on the east end of the lake near the city of Lake Geneva.

The operator had borrowed the boat from his brother. The boat broke down, they tried to restart it. They saw smoke and when they opened the engine compartment, flames shot out, the agency reported.
