— The Janesville Bluebirds let a 2-0 lead slip away en route to a 3-2 loss to host Verona in Big Eight Conference hockey Saturday.

Ron Lindgren and Owen Alhstrom gave Janesville’s co-op team a 2-0 lead in the first period, but it was all Verona the rest of the way.

The loss drops Janesville to 12-5-1 overall and 8-3-1 in the Big Eight. Verona improves to 14-5-1, 9-2-1.

Eddie Mashushima scored Verona’s first goal on rebound with six seconds remaining in the second period.

Mitchell Stevens scored at 3:53 of the third to knot the game 2-2. Zach Jones sent home the winner on a power play with 20 seconds left in regulation.

“We took a questionable call and were down 4-3,” Janesville coach John Mauermann said. “(Jones) put over Colin’s glove and that was the game.’’
