Beloit uses decisive second quarter, other scores

Beloit Memorial used a huge second quarter Thursday night to maintain its edge in Big Eight boys basketball.


After a 32-17 advantage in the second period gave the Purple Knights a 48-34 halftime lead, they went on to a 79-60 victory over Madison La Follette (2-14, 2-10) at Barkin Arena


That lifted Beloit (14-2) to 11-1 in the conference and kept the Knights a half-game ahead over seven-time defending champion Madison Memorial (10-1).


Mike Weston and Michael Winston combined for 43 points to lead Beloit. Taylor Carlson and Jonathan Ampe had 13 points each to lead the Lancers.


La Follette led by one after the first quarter but was outscored 51-28 in the second and third quarters.

Noble Jackson had 13 points to lead the Regents.

Jordan Noskowiak scored eight of his 13 points for Sun Prairie in the first period, and teammate Nick Fuller had seven of his game-high 21.
