— Justin Fowlkes and Austin Fritzinger, who helped lead Delavan-Darien High School’s football team to the WIAA Division 3 state semifinals, made verbal commitments this week to play collegiately.

Fowlkes accepted a scholarship offer from Minnesota-Duluth, the 2010 Division II national champion.

Fritzinger will sign Wednesday, the official national letter of intent signing day, with Mankato State (Minn.).

The 5-foot-7, 160-pound Fowlkes was an Associated Press all-state second-team selection and the Southern Lakes Conference Offensive Player of the Year. Fowlkes rushed for over 1,800 yards, and passed for more than 900 yards and 14 touchdowns filling in for the injured Fritzinger at quarterback.

The 6-2, 190-pound Fritzinger was a two-time All-Southern Lakes selection at quarterback. He injured his shoulder midway through the 2010 season, but returned to provide a playoff push for the Comets.
