Late surge propels Edgewood, Fort over Oregon

The Monroe High girls basketball team showed Tuesday night it could play with the best of the Badger South Conference.


The Cheesemakers were tied with Badger South-leading Madison Edgewood with two minutes left. But a three-point goal by the Crusaders’ Hannah Elfman put the visitors on top by five points, and four free throws later Edgewood wrapped up a 43-34 victory.


Monroe dropped to 2-4 in the conference and 6-6 overall. Edgewood is 6-0, 9-3.


Mackenzie Reese led the winners with 11 points.


Freshman Taylor Barrett led Monroe with 10 points.

-- Fort Atkinson 46, Oregon 33—Maddie Bare led three players in double figures with 11 points as the Blackhawks pulled away for the Badger South win.


Kaitlyn Holman and Lauren Pfeifer added 10 points each for Fort Atkinson (10-3, 3-3). Oregon’s Maddy Gits led all scorers with 13.
