Wisconsin edges Minn. St., Mankato 3-2
MADISON The Wisconsin Badgers scored three times in the second period and held on to beat Minnesota State, Mankato 3-2 Friday in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association.
Podge Turnbull, Jake Gardiner and Michael Mersch each had a goal as the Badgers (16-8-3, 8-7-2) rallied from an early deficit to win for the ninth time in 10 games.
The Badgers have beaten the Mavericks six straight times at the Kohl Center.
Wisconsin goalie Scott Gudmandson made 37 saves, including 16 in the third period. Gudmandson has allowed two goals or less in his last 11 games. The Badgers are 9-2-0 in that stretch.
Justin Schultz assisted on two Wisconsin goals.
Mike Louwerse and Andrew Sackrison tallied goals for the Mavericks. Sackrison's power-play goal at 19:12 of the first period gave MSUM an early lead. It lasted until Turnbull's goal just 2:47 into the second period.
The Mavericks (10-10-5, 4-10-3) outshot the Badgers 39-30.
Minnesota State, Mankato goalie Phil Cook had 27 stops.
