Elkhorn man gets year in jail for collectible coins theft

— Gerald Bartelt Jr. of Elkhorn was sentenced to five years of probation and 12 months of jail on a criminal charge that he stole $13,000 in currency, including collectible coins from an Elkhorn man.

Bartelt pled guilty to a charge of theft and was sentenced this week. He was ordered to pay the owner the $13,000 in stolen currency that was never recovered.

The theft happened Sept. 20 at the home of the Elkhorn man who kept the cash in a cooler.
