— The Janesville School Board plans a series of public listening sessions. The informal monthly meetings, dubbed “Conversations Toward Excellence,” start Wednesday.

Community members will be able to ask questions about topics, programs and decisions that district officials and the board have made.

“The board feels that public schools are only as strong as the informed support of the public; that support must be based on understanding, knowledge and participation in the efforts of the public schools,” according to a news release. “To that end, the board hopes to give stakeholders a better understanding about the legal boundaries and personal restriction that define the board of education's ability to make decisions and long-range plans.”

The meeting schedule:

-- 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 26, at Adams Elementary School, 1138 E. Memorial Drive.

-- 3:30-4:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 17, Jefferson Elementary School, 1831 Mount Zion Ave.

-- Tuesday, March 1, Jackson Elementary School, 441 W. Burbank Ave., time to be determined.

-- Thursday, April 7, Lincoln Elementary School, 1821 Conde St., time to be determined.

-- Tuesday, May 3, Monroe Elementary School, 55 S. Pontiac Drive, time to be determined.
