— The new Canned Film Competition is part of the 2011 Beloit International Film Festival schedule. Presented in cooperation with producers of The Get Reel Student Film Competition in Dubuque, Iowa, this new film challenge's results will be screened on the opening night of BIFF after the annual Launch and Laurels Party on Feb. 17, at the Eclipse Center.

Teams of filmmakers from throughout the region will get their directions Friday, Jan. 28, and have 50 hours to make films. Teams will be given a genre and mystery object to include in their films. Completed films will be submitted Sunday, Jan. 30, to a panel of judges. Winners will be announced at the screening after opening festivities. The selected films will then become part of the film fare of BIFF and will be shown again in Beloit and Janesville.

The entrance fee is $50 per team. Competition details are available at cannedfilmcom

petition.com and beloitfilm

fest.com.

The competition is part of a "Sister Cities in Film" partnership engaging Dubuque and Beloit in moviemaking and viewing activities.
