Whitewater women nip Eau Claire

— Chantel Burg’s three-point play with six seconds left in regulation proved to be a game-winner for UW-Whitewater’s women’s basketball team Saturday.

The Warhawks, who led by 12 at halftime, had to hang on for a 71-70 WIAC victory over UW-Eau Claire.


Whitewater (13-2, 5-1) trailed 70-68 after Eau Claire took the lead on Nicole Christianson’s basket with 31 seconds left. The Warhawks missed two shots before Burg’s three-point play with six seconds left.


Burg led the Warhawks with 15 points, while Dana Thompson and Mary Merg added 13 and 12, respectively.


Hannah Mesick and Christianson led Eau Claire (10-5,


4-2) with 17 points each.
