Man fights police and bends squad door

— A Janesville man was charged with battery to a peace office and criminal trespass for fighting police after he tried to break into a Geneva Township home on New Yearís Day.

Kerry J. Owens, 17, also has a Beloit address. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Jan. 21 before Walworth County Judge Robert Kennedy. He remains in Walworth County Jail.

According to a criminal complaint:

The Geneva Township homeowner heard Owens try to enter the home. He opened the door, thinking it was his son. Instead, he saw Owens and told him he not to come in.

Police were called and Owens fought police as they tried to get him into a squad car. He bent the frame of the left rear driverís side door.
