Warhawks win in double OT

— UW-Whitewater outlasted host UW-Oshkosh for an 89-87 victory in double overtime in WIAC men’s basketball Wednesday.

D.J. Dantzler made three of four free throws in the final 24 seconds of the second overtime to clinch the Warhawks’ victory. Whitewater scored the first five points of the second overtime and never lost the lead.


Whitewater improved to 3-3 in the WIAC and 10-5 overall. Oshkosh fell to 1-5 and 6-8.


The Titans’ Greg Schrimpf hit a three-point basket with eight seconds remaining in regulation to send the game into the first overtime and hit a three with 18 seconds remaining to put the game into the second OT.


Chris Davis and Antone Byrd scored 30 points apiece to boost the Warhawks. Dantzler finished with 11 points, and Alex Edmunds had 10 for Whitewater.


Oshkosh freshman Bryan Gregory, an Edgerton High graduate, got four minutes of playing time and scored two points.


Whitewater travels to UW-Eau Claire for a 3 p.m. game Saturday.
