Local entrants win district basketball titles

— Three winners from Janesville’s local competition captured Elks National Hoop Shoot district championships Sunday at Beloit.

A.J. Gray won the boys 8-9 division, Amy Groshan took the girls 10-11 title, and Carlos Campos was the boys 12-13 winner. All three earned the right to compete in the Feb. 12 state contest at Wausau.

Kylie Moe, the local girls 12-13 winner, placed second in the district contest. Elizabeth Uhl, Janesville’s 8-9 girls winner, did not compete at the district level.

The district contest also included local winners from Baraboo, Beloit, Madison, Platteville and Portage.

Groshan will be returning to the state contest after winning the girls 8-9 division last year and being awarded the Outstanding Girl trophy.

Winners at this year’s state contest to the national regional in Iowa City, Iowa.
