Edgerton win bittersweet, other scores

Edgerton High’s state-rated girls basketball team gained a costly nonconference win Monday night.


Whitney Oren, one of the Crimson Tide’s top players, went out with an injury after collision into the baseline wall early in a 61-41 victory at Deerfield.


Meggie Schmidt led the way with 26 points as Edgerton, No. 5 in the AP Division 5 ratings, improved to 9-1. Schmidt scored eight points in an 18-8 first quarter that put the Tide in command, and she had 10 second period, when Edgerton extended its lead to 39-22.


Kim Albrecht had 17 points for Deerfield (5-4), and Kayla Gosceck had 12, including four three-point goals.

The Blue Devils trailed 32-21 at the half. Dodgeville held Evansville to two points in the third quarter to seal the victory.


Evansville suffered its 10th straight defeat.

Courtney Spangler scored 18 points for the Chiefs. Sarah Vozel led Wilmot with 17 points, teammates Kaytlyn Eidson and Bailie Sheahan added 13 and 10 points respectively.
