East Troy High School turned back McFarland’s stiff challenge to post a pivotal 48-46 victory in Rock Valley North girls basketball Friday night.


East Troy remained undefeated at 9-0 and tied with Edgerton for first place at 5-0 in the conference. Defending champion McFarland fells to 3-2 in the league and 5-4 overall.


Brooke Lambrechts made a pair of free throws with 10 seconds remaining to give East Troy a four-point lead. McFarland hit the game’s final basket at the buzzer.


East Troy led12-5 lead after the first quarter and 18-16 at the half. The Spartans never held the lead and tied the game once.


Alicia Oleson scored 15 points to lead East Troy. McFarland’s Kaitlynn Eversoll scored 15 points to share scoring honors.


McFarland made 22 of 24 free throws, while East Troy hit 14 of 20. Each team made 10 free throws in the fourth quarter.

n Edgerton 66, Whitewater 44—The Crimson Tide remained tied with East Troy for first place in the Rock Valley North with a convincing victory at Whitewater.


Edgerton (8-1) and East Troy (9-0) share the Rock North lead with 5-0 conference records. Whitewater fell to 3-2 and 4-3.


The Crimson Tide hammered the Whippets 46-17 in the first half. Edgerton led 23-11 after the first quarter.


Megan Johnson led three Crimson Tide players in double figures with 19 points. Teammates Whitney Oren and Meggie Schmidt scored 13 points apiece.


Brooke Trewyn scored 12 points for the lone Whippet in double figures.

n Jefferson 38, Evansville 35—Jefferson (3-5, 3-2) jumped to a 16-7 lead in the first quarter, and host Evansville (0-9, 0-5) could never gain control in the Rock Valley North match-up.


Kristin Wagner and Lindsey Schreiner each hit two three-point baskets in the first eight minutes to put the Eagles in front. The Blue Devils battled back to take a two-point lead with about six minutes left, but Jefferson was able to regain the edge.


Wagner finished with 10 points to lead the Eagles (3-2 in the Rock Valley North, 3-5 overall).


Mallorie Phalin led the Blue Devils with eight points.

n Brodhead 80, Palmyra-Eagle 12—Brodhead (4-1, 5-5) outscored Palmyra-Eagle by 20 in the first quarter and cruised to a victory that gave the Cardinals a two-game lead in the Rock Valley South.


Carla Mohns scored 21 points, while her sister, Meagan, added 17. Taylor Douglas added 12 points in the win.


Lauren Rocizewski scored 10 of the Panthers’ points.

n Clinton 61, Big Foot 47—Freshman Megan Lantz scored 20 points, including a pair of three-point baskets to help the Cougars down the visiting Chiefs (3-6, 1-4) in the Rock Valley South.


Another freshman, Mallory Niemann, scored 13 points as Clinton went to 2-3 in the Rock Valley and 4-4 overall. Lantz had seven points when Clinton outscored Big Foot, 18-6, in the second quarter to take a 35-24 lead at halftime.


Courtney Spangler scored 15 points, all in the first three quarters, for Big Foot.

n Parkview 40, Turner 39—Stephanie Aasen made the front end of a shooting foul with 1.4 seconds remaining to carry the Vikings over the Trojans in the Rock Valley South.


Turner (6-4, 2-3) held a 37-28 lead after three quarters. Parkview’s (3-7, 2-3) pressing defense held Turner to one basket in the final quarter.


Aasen scored 10 of Parkview’s 12 points in the final frame and finished with a game-high 20 points. Megan Grober scored Turner’s lone basket in the fourth quarter and finished with 17 points.
