Bluebirds handle Purple Knights

— The Janesville Bluebirds scored three goals in the first period en route to a 4-1 victory over host Beloit Memorial in Big Eight Conference hockey Saturday.

After Beloit missed a breakaway on the opening faceoff, Ron Lingren’s wrist shot put on a power play put Janesville ahead 1-0 at 2 minutes and 6 seconds into the first period.

Tanner Woodman connected what would be the winning goal at 9:59 on assists from Clay Simonson and Owen Ahlstrom. D.J. Mussey finished the period with a goal at 14:37.

Janesville’s Brad Money scored at 2:29 of the third for the final outcome.

The Bluebirds (8-2-1, 5-1-1) host Middleton on Tuesday at the Janesville Ice Skating Center.
