Beloit, Sun Prairie, East boys win

Beloit Memorial High School put a major run on Middleton in Big Eight boys basketball Friday night.


The visiting Purple Knights not only broke away from a 12-12 tie in a 23-6 second quarter, but they a 22-2 surge that led to a 67-59 victory.


Mike Winston, Leketreius Broomfield and Dennis Crosby each scored six points for Beloit in the big second quarter as the Knights maintained their grip on second place with 6-1 conference record and improved to 9-1 overall.


Broomfield finished with 19 points, and teammate Ahmid Shadsid-Deen had 13. Sonny Bavery led Middleton (5-5, 4-3) with 14.

n Sun Prairie 77, Verona 57—Nick Fuller scored 19 of his 23 points in the middle two quarters to lead the Cardinals to a Big Eight win over visiting Verona.


Sun Prairie (7-3, 5-2) trailed 14-13 after the first quarter, but then outscored the Wildcats 48-21 over the second and third periods.


Jordan Noskowiak added 16 points, and Chris Hawkins scored 11 for the Cardinals.


Danny Burns led Verona (2-8, 2-5) with 10 points.

n East 63, La Follette 56—Madison East won a battle of runs to earn a Big Eight victory at Madison La Follette.


The Lancers (2-9, 2-6) had an 14-0 run between the third quarter and fourth quarters to take a 42-38 lead.


East (7-2, 5-2) rallied to take a 25-14 edge down the stretch to secure the victory.


Nimrod Hilliard IV scored 14 of his game-high 31 points in the fourth quarter, including eight straight free throws. Hilliard made 15 straight free throws overall as the teams combined to make 33 of 37 free throws for the game.


Matt Hunter scored 22 points for La Follette.
