Whitewater break-ins lead to two arrests
Shane Thom, 34, of Burlington and Johnny Coggon, 19, of Palmyra were tracked by police at around 5:30 a.m. Tuesday and arrested at an apartment in the 200 block of East Main Street.
Officers found items such as car phone chargers, MP3 players and money in their possession allegedly stolen from unlocked cars. Police Chief Jim Coan said none of the cars were broken into, and most were parked outside in the streets or driveways.
Thom and Coggon each face charges of misdemeanor theft, but they could be charged later with burglary. Coan said one of the cars was parked inside an open garage.
Both men are being held at Walworth County Jail.
Coan said police still are trying to locate all the victims to return stolen items. Anyone who had items stolen from a vehicle this week is asked to contact Detective Sgt. Tina Winger at (262) 473-0555.
People with information about the suspects or the case are asked to contact Winger or the Walworth County TIP Line at (262) 723-2677.
