— Darius Johnson-Odom scored 17 points and Chris Otule added 16 as Marquette beat Providence, 86-62, on Sunday.

Jimmy Butler had 15 points for the Golden Eagles (18-11, 9-7 Big East), and Jae Crowder finished with 12 points and 13 rebounds.

One game after scoring a Big East record 52 points in a 94-93 overtime loss to No. 9 Notre Dame, Marshon Brooks scored 17 for the Friars (14-15, 3-13).

Gerard Coleman added 16 points and Vincent Council had 12 for Providence, which lost its sixth straight.

Marquette led 40-27 at the half, then made 10-of-13 shots to start the second half.

The Golden Eagles took their biggest lead, 64-41, with 12:31 left on Junior Cadougan’s fastbreak layup.

The Friars quickly answered—capitalizing on two Marquette turnovers—with a 9-0 run capped by Bryce Cotton’s three-pointer.

Johnson-Odom’s layup stopped the rally with 9:57 to play, and Providence didn’t get closer than 14 the rest of the way.

Marquette shot 64 percent in the second half (16 of 25) and outrebounded the Friars 48-33 in the game. Providence shot 33.3 percent (13 of 39) in the second half.

Otule scored 12 points, grabbed three offensive rebounds and blocked three shots in the first half to help Marquette take a 13-point lead into intermission.
