Craig, Parker seeded in Burlington Sectional

Janesville Craig and Janesville Parker have been seeded into the Division 1 regional finals for WIAA girls basketball tournament play.


Craig High (16-4) is the No. 2 seed in the Burlington Sectional and hosts No. 7 Mukwonago (5-16) or No. 10 Kenosha Bradford (2-17) on Saturday, March 12, in the regional finals of the sectionalís lower bracket. Bradford plays at Mukwonago in a Tuesday, March 8, regional opener.


Parker High (13-6) is the No. 3 seed and hosts No. 6 Beloit Memorial (8-12) on Saturday, March 12, also in the sectionalís lower bracket.


If the Janesville teams win their regional finals, theyíll meet in the sectional semifinals at 8 p.m. Thursday, March 17, at Burlington.


Muskego (16-5) heads the sectionalís upper bracket as the No. 1 seed. The Warriors host No. 8 Burlington (7-13) or No. 9 Kenosha Tremper (5-15) in the March 12 regional finals.


The upper bracket of the Burlington Sectional also has fifth-seeded Lake Geneva Badger (12-9) at fourth-seeded Franklin (13-8) in a regional final.


Under the WIAAís new five-division format, only four teams will qualify for the Division 1 state tournament. That means the Burlington sectional champion will play the Verona champion in a Tuesday, March 22, super sectional at UW-Whitewater to the determine the state qualifier.


Top-ranked Middleton (19-1), the Big Eight champion, is the Verona Sectionalís No. 1 seed. Oconomowoc (19-2) is seeded second.


Milton (17-3) is one of three No. 1 regional seeds in the Sun Prairie Sectional for Division 2. The Red Hawks draw a first-round bye on Tuesday, March 8, and host No. 4 Whitewater (11-9) or No. 5 Oregon


(4-17) in the Friday, March 11, regional semifinals.


Second-ranked Union Grove (19-1), the Southern Lakes champion, joins Milton as a No. 1 regional seed in the sectionalís lower bracket. No. 1 Baraboo (15-5) and No. 2 Madison Edgewood (15-6) are top two in the upper bracket, which was not broken down into regional seeds.


Rock Valley North champion Edgerton (19-1), which is No. 6 in the AP state ratings, is among the four No. 1 regional seeds in the Waunakee Sectional for Division 3. The Crimson Tide also draws a first-round bye on Tuesday, March 8, and hosts No. 4 Turner (10-10) or No. 5 Clinton (9-12) in the Friday, March 11, regional semifinals.


Lakeside Lutheran (14-6) joins Edgerton as a No. 1 regional seed for the sectionalís lower bracket. Wisconsin Dells (14-6) and Richland Center (19-1) are the upper bracketís No. 1 seeds.


All teams will be shooting for berths in the March 24-26 state tournament at Kohl Center in Madison.
