Oregon gets past Milton, other scores

Evan Ackers scored nine of his 14 points in the fourth quarter when Oregon pulled away for a 51-35 Badger Conference boys basketball victory over host Milton on Thursday night.


The Red Hawks took an 11-3 lead in the first quarter, but the Panthers slowly chipped away. Oregon led, 30-26, going into the final quarter.


David Solberg had 11 points, and Adam Gorman added 10 for the Panthers (7-5 in the Badger, 15-7 overall).


Torger Johnson led the Red Hawks (3-9, 10-12) with eight points, including two three-pointers.

-- Monona Grove 65, Monroe 59—Senior point guard Zach Zweifel scored 34 points as the second-place Silver Eagles knocked off the Badger South champion Cheesemakers in Monroe.


Zweifel scored 11 of his points in the fourth quarter for MG (15-7, 8-4).


Senior point guard Michael Barrett led Monroe (18-4, 9-3) with 30 points, including 10 in the fourth quarter. But free throw woes proved to be Monroe’s downfall. The Cheesemakers made just 16 of 32 from the line. Barrett was 9 of 20, including 5 of 12 in the final period.


Max Gehrmann added 18 points for Monona Grove.

-- Fort Atkinson 70, Stoughton 65—Fort Atkinson (6-16, 3-9) made 22 of 24 free throws in a 31-point fourth quarter to stun host Stoughton (9-13, 4-8) in a Badger South finale.


Tanner Boos went 8-for-8 from the line in the final period as the Blackhawks rolled up a 31-19 advantage that completed their comeback from a 33-25 halftime deficit. Logan Schwandt also was 6-for-6 on free throws.


Boos, a sophomore, finished with 23 points, and Schwandt had 12. Fort also got 13 points from Jimmy Hanson and 11 from Brady Sexton.


Ben Cleveland paced Stoughton with 21 points.
