— Jefferson High School graduate Lin Zastrow stepped up to spark the University of Wisconsin to a 65-57 victory over visiting Indiana in Big Ten women’s basketball Wednesday.

Zastrow celebrated Senior Night, scoring a game-high 21 points, including a six-for-six effort from the foul line as the Badgers (15-12, 10-5) broke a two-game conference losing streak. Senior Alyssa Karel followed with 12 points, and Jade Davis chipped in 10.

“When we needed Lin, she came in and she was ready,” Badger coach Lisa Stone said. “At halftime, I really challenged her.”

After winning its final regular-season home game, Wisconsin (15-12, 10-5) took over sole possession of third place in the Big Ten.

The Badgers clinched the victory with six free throws final 1 minute, 23 seconds, including two apiece from junior Anya Covington, freshman Morgan Paige and Karel.

The Badgers controlled the first half, holding the Hoosiers (9-18, 3-12) to just one field goal and three free throws to lead 19-5 with 12:56 to play. Indiana went on a 21-11 run in the final 12:32 of the first half to narrow the Badgers’ lead to 30-26 by halftime.

Indiana opened the second half with a 14-6 run to obtain its first and greatest lead of the game at 40-36 with 12:58 to play. Zastrow scored seven straight points to lead the Badger’s 17-7 rally for a 53-47 lead with 6:55 to play.

The Hoosiers pulled within one and two points of the lead, but the Badgers held Indiana to just three points in the final two minutes to seal the victory.

The Hoosiers’ Jori Davis and Hope Elam finished with 17 and 16 points, respectively.

Wisconsin concludes the regular season at Ohio State on Sunday. Tip-off is scheduled for 11 a.m. and will be broadcast live on the Big Ten Network.
