Madison La Follette rallies past West, other scores

A 29-point fourth quarter carried Madison La Follette to a 71-65 victory over visiting Madison West in Big Eight Conference boys basketball Tuesday night.


The Lancers rallied from a 50-42 deficit at the end of the three quarters to win the rescheduled game.


Four players scored all of the Lancers’ 29 fourth-quarter points. Demetrius Brazzel and Trevon Ampe each had eight, Taylor Carlson had seven and Matt Hunter had six.


Hunter finished with 19, Ampe had 15, Carlson 12 and Brazzel 10 as La Follette went to 3-14 in the Big Eight and


3-18 overall.


Kwame Latimer led the Regents (3-14, 3-18) with 21 points, and Chris Bester had 15.

-- Verona 76, East 71—Verona built a 56-47 lead going into the fourth quarter, then survived the long-range shooting of Nimrod Hilliard IV.


Hilliard nailed five three-pointers in the fourth quarter, with his last one pulling the Purgolders to within 74-71. Nate Ray sealed the victory with two free throws.


Hilliard finished with 27 points, and East hit 11 three-pointers.


Junior Bryan Dalton scored 22 points to lead Verona. Danny Burns added 21, including nine-of-10 free-throw shooting in the fourth quarter.

-- Stoughton 52, Middleton 50—Ryan Nyhagen hit a three-point shot with 20 seconds left, and Stoughton’s defense took over from there as the Vikings edged visiting Middleton in a nonconference game.


The senior guard finished with five three-pointers and 15 points. Middleton had two shots after Nyhagen’s game-winner, but failed to convert.


Ben Cleveland added 13 points for Stoughton (9-12).


Senior center Ian Joyce led the Cardinals (10-11) with 18 points.
