Clinton wins at Brodhead, other scores

Clinton High’s boys basketball team put the ultimate stamp of authority on its Rock Valley South championship season Tuesday night.


The visiting Cougars, who had clinched the undisputed title over the weekend, took it a step beyond with a 78-52 victory over second-place Brodhead.


Clinton, celebrating its first championship since winning the eight-school Rock Valley title in 1996, improved to 18-3 for the season and extended its South Division lead over Brodhead (12-9, 9-6) and Turner to four games with a 13-2 conference record.


The Cougars’ only losses have been to Rock Valley North champion East Troy, North runner-up McFarland and Badger South champion Monroe.


Cody Risseeuw scored 27 points in leading Clinton to its second win of the season over Brodhead. The Cougars also held Brodhead senior standout J.J. Panoske, the conference scoring leader, to 14 points—10 below his Rock Valley average.


Clinton built a 17-point lead by halftime and blew the game open with a 21-9 advantage in the third quarter.


Justin Langley added 14 points for the Cougars, and Ross Oldenburg had 13.

-- Palmyra-Eagle 51, Parkview 50—Kevin McGivern’s layup as time expired lifted the Palmyra-Eagle to a Rock Valley South win at Orfordville, giving the Panthers a season sweep of the Vikings.


McGivern led Palmyra-Eagle (6-15, 3-12) with 23 points, while Kyle Woodworth had 16 to lead Parkview (1-18, 0-15).

-- Turner 56, Big Foot 54—Tevien Pinkney scored 36 points, including the winning jump shot with four seconds left, to give Turner a Rock South victory at Walworth.


Travis Appleby, who scored 12 points, hit two free throws with 25 seconds left to put Turner ahead. Big Foot’s Carter Hehr followed with a game-tying layup before Pinckney came through at the end.


Jordan Gottman (13), Kenneth Walker (12) and Michael Kunes (10) scored in the double digits for Big Foot (2-13,


4-17).


The win lifted Turner to


11-10 for the season and into a second-place tie with Brodhead at 9-6 in conference play.

The Crimson Tide (10-10,


7-7) trailed by three points in the first quarter, but rallied for a 13-9 advantage by the end of the period and led the rest of the way in avenging last month’s 52-43 loss at Evansville.


Gregory and teammate Tyler Dobratz each scored 13 points. Tyler Oren added 12 points, including a 4-for-4 effort on free throws in the fourth quarter, for Edgerton.


Casey Moseley scored 13 points for Evansville (11-10,


7-8), and teammate Dylan Erickson added 11.

15-0) clinched a third straight undisputed Rock Valley North championship with a victory at Jefferson.


Jefferson rallied from a 13-2 deficit after one quarter to get within 25-19 by halftime. The Trojans then went on a 20-5 run in the third quarter to take control.


Brett Prahl added 15 points, Nate Dodge scored 12 and Alex Prahl had 10 for East Troy, the state’s second-ranked Division 3 team.


Zach Peachey scored nine points to lead Jefferson (8-13,
