St. Paul’s tournament tips off Friday

The tradition continues this weekend at St. Paulís Lutheran School in Janesville.

Itís time for the 39th annual Janesville Lutheran Invitational, featuring seventh- and eighth-grade boys basketball teams.

The eight-team tournament tips off Friday at L.W. Gersmehl Gymnasium, 210 S. Ringold, with Janesville St. Paulís playing Lombard (Ill.) St. Johnís at 9 p.m. in the last of four first-round games.

Mount Prospect (Ill.) St. Paul plays defending champion Cedarburg St. Immanuel at the 5 p.m. opener, followed by Belvidere (Ill.) Immanuel vs. Portage St. Johnís at 6:15, and Roselle (Ill.) Trinity vs. Plymouth St. John at 7:30.

Six games are scheduled for Saturday, starting at 10 a.m. Sundayís will tip off with the fifth-place game at 1 p.m., followed by third-place game at 2:30 and the championship game at 4.

Trophies will be awarded to the top six teams and top three cheerleading squads. There also will be a sportsmanship trophy.

Weekend passes are $10 for adults and $5 for students. Daily passes are $4 for adults and $2 for students.
