McCann leads Milton to win over Wilmot, Oregon falls

Sam McCann had a career-high 29 points in leading Milton High’s boys basketball team past Wilmot, 59-51, in a nonconference game Monday night.


McCann, a 6-4 junior, had an eight-point first quarter in sparking the visiting Red Hawks to a 16-8 lead, which they never relinquished. Milton led 26-15 at halftime, and McCann finished the job with 10 points in the third quarter and seven in the fourth as the Red Hawks (10-11) notched their third straight win.


Matt Betz had 14 points to pace Wilmot (4-15).

-- Monona Grove 52, Oregon 49—Max Gehrmann and Zach Zweifel second-half scoring carried the Silver Eagles (14-6, 7-4) to a Badger South victory over visiting Oregon (14-7, 6-5).


The pair combined to score 27 of the Silver Eagles’ 38 second-half points. Monona Grove trailed 23-14 at the half after getting held to four points in the second quarter.


Monona Grove took a 20-14 advantage in the third quarter to cut the deficit to 37-34. Monona Grove gained an 18-12 advantage in the fourth quarter to seal the victory.


Zweifel finished with 20 points and Gehrmann added 15. Adam Gorman scored 15 points for Oregon, while temmates David Solberg and Corey Byrne scored 14 and 12 points, respectively.
