Michael Barrett scored 13 of his game-high 31 points in the second quarter to carry Monroe High School to a 57-49 victory over Fort Atkinson to clinch the Badger South Conference boys basketball championship Friday at Fort.


The victory gave Monroe (18-2, 9-2) a two-game lead in the loss column over Madison Edgewood (8-4), Oregon (6-4) and Monona Grove (6-4) with one to play.


The Cheesemakers led a 32-17 halftime lead. The Blackhawks (5-16, 2-9) pulled to within three points with 1:54 left in the game, but Barrett made a three-point play to put Monroe up by six.


Tanner Boos scored 16 points for Fort, and teammmate Brady Sexton added 10. Bryan Tordoff scored 10 points for Monroe.

Milton rolled to a 15-0 first-quarter lead, but the Vikings (13-7) stormed back with an 18-9 advantage in the second quarter to cut the deficit to 24-18.


Sam McCann scored 12 points for Milton. Luke Webber took scoring honors with 18 points for Mount Horeb.
