Union Grove stays perfect, clinches tie, other scores

Union Grove High School’s girls basketball team looked like a champion Thursday night at Elkhorn.


The state-rated Broncos, in fact, clinched the Southern Lakes title with an impressive 67-38 victory over the Elks.


The Broncos, No. 3 in the AP Division 2 ratings, improved to 17-1 for the season and 11-0 in the conference. That kept them four games ahead of second-place Lake Geneva Badger (7-4) with only three to play.


Union Grove raced to a 21-6 lead over Elkhorn and finished it off with a 26-11 outburst in the final period.


Danielle Mutchie had 14 points to lead led four Union Grove scorers in double figures. Grace Ames led Elkhorn (7-11, 4-6) with 13.
