Whitewater Whippets top Eagles, Bagder loses

Whitewater High used a strong second half to defeat visiting Jefferson, 50-41, in Rock Valley North girls basketball Monday.


The Eagles (6-11, 6-6) led 21-17 at the half after marking a 14-5 second-quarter advantage. The Whippets (10-6, 8-4) rolled to a 19-11 third-uarter advantage for a 36-30 lead.


Julia Shelbourn scored 10 of her 17 points in the second half to spark the Whippets. Kristin Wagner scored 12 points for Jefferson.

Nonconference

-- Fort Atkinson 48, Badger 43—Fort Atkinson (11-7) built a 27-18 lead in the first half, then held off visiting Lake Geneva Badger (10-8) down the stretch for a nonconference victory.


Badger battled back to within 37-35 in the fourth quarter, but Fort Atkinson made seven of 12 free throws in the final period, and that was enough to rebuild the lead.


Kaitlyn Hollman led Fort Atkinson with 13 points, followed by Lexie Weigand with 13 and Lauren Pfeifer with 10. Lana Wieseman had 15 points for Badger, and Emma Kopp added 13.
