Evansville overcomes slow start to down Clinton

Leanna Kinney’s heroics enabled Evansville High School’s girls basketball team to pick up its second win of the season Saturday.


Kinney made a jump shot with five seconds left to play to lift the Blue Devils to a 57-55 Rock Valley Conference win over Clinton.


Evansville (2-15, 2-10) trailed by 13 after one quarter but outscored the Cougars in each of the last three quarters.


Kim Beggs had 21 points to lead the Blue Devils, while Mallory Niemann had 12 points to lead the Cougars (8-10, 4-8).
