— A turnaround season continued Saturday afternoon for Janesville Craig High School’s boys basketball team.

The Cougars won their fourth straight game by holding off Madison West, 49-47, in a Big Eight Conference game at Jim Stevens Gymnasium.

Craig High, which was 0-12 to start the Big Eight season, improved to 4-12 in the conference and 6-14 overall.

The Cougars led most of the game, but needed Brett Pickarts’ baseline jumper from eight feet with 24 seconds left to play to take the lead for good at 49-47.

West (3-16, 3-12) had five chances to tie the game on its last possession but could not convert. The Regents defeated the Cougars in the teams’ first meeting this season, 56-54, on a last-second basket.

Craig High’s man-to-man defense frustrated West down the stretch.

Senior Nate Brault came off the bench to lead the Cougars with 11 points, while leading scorer Cody Dare added nine.

West’s Kwame Latimer led all scorers with 14 points.
