Bluebirds drop Beloit

— The Janesville Bluebirds co-op high school boys hockey team defeated visiting Beloit, 3-1, to conclude the Big Eight Conference regular season Saturday.

The Bluebirds finish 10-3-1 in the Big Eight and are 15-5-2 overall. Janesville wrapped up the regular season with three straight victories

Janesville scored one goal in each period. Cody Iverson, Keaton Eichman and Mo McCrone each scored for Janesville.

Bluebirds coach John Mauermann said Janesville kept pressure on Beloit.

“We put a lot of shots on the net,” Mauermann said. “We outshot them 15-3 in the first period and had 16 shots in the second period. That’s what we wanted to do.

“We know their goaltender does an excellent job, but at the same time we wanted to put pressure on him.’’

Janesville goaltenders Tyler Lewis made six saves and Collin Cropp had nine.

The Bluebirds host Beloit this Friday at 4 p.m. to open a WIAA regional final.
