Verona shocks Beloit with last-second FG

Beloit Memorial High School's road to a Big Eight Conference boys basketball title hit a detour Thursday night.


Jordan Braxton's rebound basket as the buzzer sounded gave Verona a stunning 71-69 win over the visiting Purple Knights.


Seventh-ranked Beloit (16-3, 13-2) remained in first place but saw its lead cut to one-half game over Madison Memorial (12-2).


The Purple Knights had the ball with a chance to win down the stretch, but a turnover gave the ball back to the Wildcats with six seconds left.


Bryan Dalton led Verona with 23 points, while Beloit's Jonathan Winston led all scorers with 25. Leketreius Broom field added 19 for the Knights.

-- Memorial 52, Middleton 46—Madison Memorial's seven-time defending champions moved within a half-game of the Big Eight by coasting past the visiting Cardinals.


Memorial (13-5, 12-2) jumped out to an 8-0 lead and was never threatened.


Tre Burnett had 11 points to lead the Spartans, while Seth Coyne and Ian Joyce had 15 points each for Middleton (9-9, 8-7).

-- Sun Prairie 73, West 65—Jordan Noskowiak scored nine of his 21 points in the first quarter to help Sun Prairie (14-5, 11-4) build a 19-7 lead that put the Cardinals on track for a Big Eight win over visiting Madison West (3-15, 3-11).


Nick Fuller had a 22 points for Sun Prairie, which led by 20 in the second quarter. West's Kwame Latimer had a game-high 29 points.
